Employee Story Spotlight: Cooper Ramshaw

We love the opportunity to celebrate the lives of our employees. This month, we’re taking a moment to learn more about Cooper Ramshaw and his journey in the Kansas Air National Guard.

Serving with Purpose: Cooper’s Journey in the Kansas Air National Guard

In June 2017, Cooper enlisted in the Kansas Air National Guard, inspired by the service of his two older brothers and motivated by the opportunity to earn a college degree without debt. But more than the practical benefits, it was the honor of wearing the uniform and contributing to something larger than himself that truly drew him in.

A year later, his military journey began in earnest with Basic Military Training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. He graduated in August 2018 and went on to train as an Aerospace Ground Equipment (AGE) Maintainer at Sheppard AFB, where he learned to maintain diesel-powered equipment critical to the KC-135 aircraft. By December 2018, he was mission-ready and returned to Forbes Field in Topeka, Kansas, working full-time as an AGE mechanic.

In August 2019, Cooper began his college studies at Kansas State University, majoring in Personal Financial Planning. Balancing school with his duties as a Drill Status Guardsman, he served one weekend a month and two weeks a year while pursuing his education.

His commitment soon extended beyond the classroom. In December 2019, he deployed to Guam to support Air Force operations, returning stateside in February 2020. A month later, he was activated again to support COVID-19 relief efforts at the State Emergency Operations Center, serving through July. In 2021, he completed Airman Leadership School at Mountain Home AFB in Idaho—a major milestone in his growth as a leader.

For Cooper, the most impactful part of his service has been the people he’s worked alongside and the leadership skills he’s developed. From technical precision to team coordination, the Guard shaped him into a capable and disciplined professional—qualities that have translated into his civilian career.

Now a Staff Sergeant approaching the end of his eight-year commitment in June 2025, Cooper reflects on his Guard experience with deep pride. His service has taken him from technical schools and overseas deployments to emergency response missions at home, shaping him into a leader with a strong sense of purpose.

Today, Cooper applies those same values in his role as Associate Family Wealth Director at StoryOne. With degrees in Personal Financial Planning and Agricultural Economics, he helps clients build financially secure futures. The transition from military mechanic to financial advisor may seem unlikely, but for Cooper, both roles are rooted in service, attention to detail, and care for others.

“I’m fueled by relationships,” he says. “In both the military and financial planning, it’s about meeting people where they are, understanding their needs, and helping them move forward.”

Cooper continues to serve his community through his faith and volunteer work, including mentoring students in the Shawnee Mission School District alongside his wife Megan. Whether he’s guiding a client or encouraging a young person, he brings the same integrity and energy that defined his time in uniform.

Looking ahead, he hopes to grow as a leader in the financial planning industry, grounded in the values forged through service. His advice to others considering the same path is clear: “If college is something you’re considering, I always recommend the Kansas Air National Guard. The experiences, the education, the people—there’s truly nothing like it. I’d do it all over again.”
