A Curiosity for How Things Work
Jimmy Cahill has always been someone who looks closely at how things work. Growing up in Overland Park, Kansas, he found himself naturally drawn to numbers, patterns and the decisions that shape everyday life.
That curiosity eventually led him toward finance and ultimately to his role at StoryOne.
Jimmy attended Holy Spirit Catholic School and later Rockhurst High School before enrolling at the University of Kansas. Like many students entering college, he began his studies in the School of Business without a clear idea of which direction he wanted to pursue.
But when he took his first introductory finance class, something clicked.
While some classes felt like a grind, finance felt different. It was a subject that challenged him intellectually while also connecting to nearly every aspect of real life. From families managing their resources to businesses making strategic decisions, finance played a role everywhere.
That realization helped Jimmy see where he wanted to focus his career.
Discovering the Right Culture
Jimmy first heard about StoryOne through a connection with Kenny Conklin. After a phone conversation and a visit with the team, he noticed something that set the firm apart.
“There was a feeling there that I hadn’t seen in other places. The genuine joy and drive to help people stood out immediately.” - Jimmy
That culture made the decision to join StoryOne an easy one.
Supporting Clients and the Team
As an Associate Client Services Representative, Jimmy supports the team in a variety of ways. His days rarely look exactly the same, which is something he enjoys.
Whether helping coordinate client needs, assisting with operational tasks or interacting directly with clients, he appreciates the opportunity to contribute wherever he is needed.
For Jimmy, the most rewarding part of the role is connecting with people.
Whether speaking with clients over the phone or assisting them in person, he enjoys building relationships and helping ensure their experience with StoryOne is smooth and positive.
Lessons in Persistence
Like many people balancing school and professional responsibilities, Jimmy has faced his share of challenges along the way. Completing his finance degree while working has required discipline and persistence.
At times the workload felt overwhelming, but he learned an important lesson that continues to guide him.
“Taking things one day at a time makes even big challenges manageable. You just keep putting your head down and moving forward.” - Jimmy
That mindset has helped him continue climbing toward his goals.
Looking Ahead
Looking ahead, Jimmy hopes to continue growing within the financial planning profession and eventually pursue his CFP® designation.
More than any specific milestone, however, he focuses on steady improvement and becoming better each day.
Life Outside the Office
Outside of work and school, Jimmy enjoys spending time with friends, playing sports, watching movies and diving into sports statistics.
He’s also a passionate fan of Kansas and Kansas City teams. While he typically carries himself with a calm demeanor, watching his teams play can bring out a much more emotional side.
At home, Jimmy enjoys spending time with his dog, Millie, who keeps life entertaining and reminds him to slow down and enjoy the small moments.
