Meet the Team

John Christensen

CEO and Senior Family Wealth Director

John grew up in a farming community, working on his family’s farm in south central Nebraska. The diversified nature of farm life, with its blend of cattle raising, farming, trucking, and custom harvesting instilled in John a deep appreciation for business dynamics, entrepreneurship and hard work. High school introduced him to his first formal business class, solidifying his resolve to pursue this path in college. He received a double major in Business Administration and Economics at Hastings College.

While assisting friends with a small business venture in Annapolis, Maryland after college, John’s journey took an unexpected turn. He crossed paths with a seasoned estate and tax planning attorney, igniting his imagination and steering his focus toward law. This pivotal moment led John to the University of Tulsa College of Law, where he pursued a Juris Doctorate and a Certificate in Entrepreneurial Law. Delving into securities law, estate planning, and taxation, John’s academic journey was enriched by his cross-disciplinary approach, which included courses in the business school. This set John on a new course that would become the foundation of his future career.

He specializes in designing and implementing sophisticated financial plans that encompass a wide range of areas, including succession planning, estate planning, life insurance and risk management, retirement planning, investment management, and charitable giving.

For the next nineteen years, John has honed his technical knowledge and skills, by working in trust administration, as an independent financial advisor and as a leader within a multi-family office in Kansas City. John gained valuable experience as a Trust Administrator at National Advisors Trust Company FSB, where he cultivated relationships, administered trusts, and reviewed trust agreements. He also served as Vice President of the Trust Advisory Group at Enterprise Bank & Trust, where he successfully onboarded large clients, deepened client relationships, managed assets for clients with substantial net worth, and earned his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM (CFP®) designation. John then became an independent financial advisor and joined Keel Point in 2011 as a Senior Family Wealth Director, spearheading the establishment of the Kansas City office, where he served as a trusted advisor to families and business owners, providing comprehensive financial planning solutions.

Today, as the CEO and co-founder of StoryOne Family Office, John combines his unique blend of technical knowledge, real-world experiences, and entrepreneurial spirit to guide business owners, entrepreneurs, and families in the stewardship of their wealth with confidence and clarity. He specializes in designing and implementing sophisticated financial plans that encompass a wide range of areas, including succession planning, estate planning, life insurance and risk management, retirement planning, investment management, and charitable giving. His background as an attorney adds depth to his ability to tackle complex situations, providing clients with comprehensive solutions that address their legal, tax, and financial planning needs. His strategic approach combines deep industry knowledge with a keen understanding of his clients’ objectives, taking a holistic view of his clients’ financial lives, focusing on their personal values, aspirations, and concerns in order to develop customized strategies that align with their unique story.

Outside of his professional endeavors, John is deeply involved in his community and family. For the past six years he has served as a Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 98 and been a member of the School Board for Kansas City Christian. Additionally, John has dedicated his time and expertise to various nonprofit and ministry boards, demonstrating his commitment to making a positive impact beyond the realm of finance. In his personal life, John finds joy and fulfillment in spending time with his wife, Sooki, and their four teenage children: Wyatt, Marshall, Eden, and Grace.
