Will lived in a country town without video player or cinema for much of his early life. This fueled his passion for the moving image, as a trip to the movies was a special occasion. He recalls his father coming back from the movies and captivating him with the plots to Edward Scissorhands and Aliens.
He developed his talents while studying a Bachelor of Arts in Film & TV at Curtin University in Perth. Shortly after, Will entered the television industry, working in post-production for Prospero Productions, one of Australia’s top documentary companies, on 13 productions including Gallipoli’s Deep Secrets, Pirate Patrol, Outback Truckers and Vets School series.
Will developed his filmmaking simultaneously writing and making films with Nathan. A highlight of this was winning the 2010 Mardi Gras Film Festival’s My Queer Career award for Disarm with Nathan Keene and afterwards hearing how many audience members deeply related to the film.
Will relocated to Sydney in 2012, working in the television distribution sector for Flame Distribution and Endemol Shine International.
In late 2014, Will & Nathan began shooting Little Boy Blue, at a farm in Quirindi, a five hour drive from Sydney. During the first of four shoots, the crew were ambushed by a fast approaching storm that took equipment flying across the paddocks. They took shelter in the set, a large barn, from the torrential rain. Completed in 2016, Little Boy Blue was nominated for six awards at the St Kilda Film Festival, winning two, and screened at Screamfest LA and the Moscow International Film Festival.
In 2016, Will took a belated gap year to rural China where he taught English at a kindergarten and traveled throughout Asia.
In 2017, Nathan and Will returned to Perth to grow their business Story One.
